2026: A Year of Clarity

2026 Making Plans

In this I am going to be focused on my making practice as it applies to clothing. I have plans for other little projects around the house, but for another time.

Sewing

This year I am focused on pants for sewing, and specifically pants with volume.

The three patterns I am going to be focusing on are the Frey pants, the Coe trousers, and the Protea pants. Each has something different to offer in terms of silhouette or wear.

The Frey pants are a barrel leg, elastic waist pants with a pleat. They are simple, with thoughtful details and excellent drafting. This year I want to figure out how I can transform them for different seasons with different fabrics, specifically wanting to make a wool version that layers easily with things like tights (I live in Canada).

The Coe trousers are just fucking cool. I am not sure how else to put it. I want to do them in a tough bull canvas and a light wash blue denim. I want to wear them in and live in them.

The Proteas are the most out of my comfort zone in terms of silhouette, but I can't stop picturing them in all different kinds of fabrics! Breezy linen, flowing tencel, etc.

I may also make some shorts, either from the Frey pants or give the Dern shorts a go.

Knitting

For me, knitting this year is about naturalistic yarns in really realized patterns. Simple silhouettes, but that hold visual interest. The templates I used are from The Sewing Club in Victoria, Canada. They are a great local spot!

The back yoke sweater is one I am currently working on. Ulysses is a bouncy dream to knit with, but I have had to make some fitting changes that were a bit challenging math wise. The results though? I am very pleased!!

I have never splurged on a yarn like I will be splurging on this yarn! A striking red, this will definitely embody a "pop" in my otherwise neutral/earth tone plans for the year.

Another one in de rerum natura, but this time in the heavier weight. I am kind of flip-flopping on colour here, but the mossy green is really starting to set in for me as the way to go.

Lastly, we have a turtleneck, yarn TBD, but will be a chocolate espresso brown. Eee! I am very excited for this one! It feels indulgent in a way I am totally here for.
